(Frequently Asked Questions)
How can I contact the Naked Mic?
Email host@nakedmic.com.
Questions, ideas, and perspectives are welcome.
What is the Naked Mic?
It's a cyber open mic. If you're not familiar with an open mic, it goes pretty much as follows:
a microphone is set up on a stage in a cafe, bar or coffeehouse. If you'd like to use it, you sign-up with the host. Then you perform your own music, poetry, comedy, etc. Afterwards, you buy coffee and try to look artistic. The Naked Mic works the same way, but with a few key advantages:
-You're not limited to a particular place. Here, you can see performances from all over the world.
-You can enjoy it anytime, and at your leisure.
-All of your friends can come.
-You get an audience without the nerve-wracking act of standing before them, stuttering, or forgetting your lines.
-There's no weird, smelly guy shouting comments from the back of the room.
-The beverages are free, and very entertaining.
-You can wear your pajamas.
How do I submit my work?
Anyone can sign-up for the mic by clicking the "sign-up" link at the bottom of the page. The form works best for text. If you're sending attachments, mail them to host@nakedmic.com.
You should get a confirmation within 48 hours, either way.
What's the café?
The café offers tasty refreshments from other spots on the world-wide web. On the current menu, coffee drinks lead to news-related items, tea will lead you to visual art, cold drinks are linked to music, and flavors will take you to random, caffeine-inspired entertainment. Click around.
The café will be changed every few months. If you know of a great link, please send it in.
When will there be a new mic?
When there are new performances. If you'd like to see a new mic, then please submit work and encourage other artists to do the same. If submissions permit, I'd like to update the mic bi-weekly.
Can I submit _____?
Probably. Try me.
Can I submit anonymously?
This is cyberspace, which is anonymous enough already. If you can't be brave here--well, that's a bit pathetic, isn't it? How will you ever become famous?
That being said, do what you like. I'll still need a valid email address (to contact for technical details).
I'm working on a piece--can I get feedback?
Sure! Click "Grapevine" (at the bottom of any page) and start a topic asking for feedback, advice, or editing.
Describe what your piece is like and what you're looking for. You shouldn't have any trouble finding volunteers.
Did my form go through?
Perhaps. If you don't get an email confirmation within 48 hours, please submit it again.
I found a broken link/button/file.
Please let me know.
How do I find ________?
Try the search feature at the bottom of the page.
Why don't the images display properly in Mozilla Firefox?
Because this website's built in Frontpage. Sorry. But the text does stay the same!
