Brent Green Presents:
    Hadacol Christmas

I first encountered Brent Green's animated films at the Maker's Faire, a nifty convention where people display whatever it is they make, from robots to crafts.  Tucked in a dark corner, Green's quirky animations immediately caught my attention.  His films are morbidly twisted, but whimsical.  Although Hadacol Christmas stars a drunk and desperately lonely Santa Claus, he creates a magical sleigh while other characters revive dead birds and conduct orchestras from rooftops.  Despite their macabre nature, Green's films are funny and filled with perverse wonder.  His work would fall in a genre with Tim Burton's, although it's more enigmatic.

Green's animations are built around his own narrations and musical scores.  His expressive voice warbles with sorrow and anger (think Bright Eyes), while still, amidst the shit of the world, finding delight. Several of his films, including Hadacol, are accompanied by the experimental rock band Califone.  The animations and narrations are so carefully intertwined that it's difficult to tell which came first or which ultimately drives the piece.  Either way, they're strangely delightful.
