University College Utrecht
Presents:
Hair
In May of this year, University College Utrecht presented three riveting performances of the musical Hair. The cast, crew, and musicians came from a variety of backgrounds and majors but collaborated with an undeniable spark. The production was a huge success, and each performance was packed.
Hair's plot revolves around a group of friends living in New York City during the 1960s, their involvement with the hippie movement, and the choices they face when several are drafted into the Vietnam conflict. Written by James Rad and Gerome Ravioli with a musical score by Galt MacDermot, it orginally debuted in 1967. However, UCU's contemporary performance captured these same themes of friendship, sexuality, rebellion and political conflict, highlighting their relevance today.
Many of the cast will be graduating this spring, so an encore performance is virtually impossible. However, you can catch several clips of the first night's performance by clicking the links below. Filmed by an audience member, the film and sound quality are slightly marred, but the show's energy shines through.
