I've heard Chris play live twice, and both times, I took notice. The music is acoustic and mellow, but it's anything but ambient. The melodies are intricate, and the lyrics cut delicate imagery. Hanson plays unconventionally too--he makes chords with his wrist above the guitar's neck rather than below it. It looks a bit awkward, but he plays fluidly, even when simultaneously playing the harmonica. I'd say the songs are rooted in folk and dressed in poetry. Listening to them might be a bit like resting in a glistening cocoon.
