There's a 4 year old kid in my house, and I'm temporarily responsible for him. So, no update this week--sorry guys. Be sure to submit some picks and mic works, and I'll post 'em up next week.

Bonjour, Bog, and Goedendag,
This week brings you a new book pick for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, thanks to David's avid reading. He insists that his review includes no plot spoilers, and you can read it here.
There's also a new Mad Duck and a brand new menu!
The menu, of course, serves as the Naked Mic's guide to refreshment across the world wide web. I recommend you try the following, depending on your tastes:- Coffee drinks for news and literary topics
- Tea flavors for information on the arts
- Soda pops leading to musical delightsThe flavors on the bottom are just added sweetness. Enjoy.
Cheers, and thanks for coming!-The Naked Mic

Hello!
I've created a new map to the site, which can serve as a table of contents, should you ever need help finding things. Additionally, everyone's work is now listed on their bio page. Although 55 people had visited the feedback page as of yesterday, no one felt compelled to leave a comment, so I suppose the site is perfect for now. Should you ever want to offer feedback, you can do so through the new grapevine.
In other news, we have a brand new mic featuring 2 new artists, along with a lovely new story from David and a poem from myself. The new menu's still coming, so you still have time to find that Cohen poem. If anyone finds it, they'll win a lovely new Naked Mic t-shirt.
Peace, folks.

Naked Mic News

Hello Everyone,
This week the Naked Mic is under construction. I'm building a site map, which will be a sort of 'table of contents' to make finding things less of a pain in the ass. I'll also be creating a new menu (which means there's limited time left to find that Cohen poem [see Newsflash, June 8th]).
In order to make the Naked Mic as incredible as humanly possible, I do need your help. Right now it's only as cool as I can imagine it, and that's limited. Your imaginations could be better. So please send your thoughts on the following: What needs to change? What should be added? What should be trashed? Type it on the feedback page, or send me an email at host@nakedmic.com. I'll be considering it all, no matter how drastic or tiny.
Last, but not least, I'd love to post a new mic next week to kick off the revised site. So please do send in your works along with your comments. I'll even send a prize to the next 3 people who submit something.
Thanks very much!

NEWSFLASH! jUly 5, 2007
Greetings from the new brunette!
Important
FYI:
The Declaration of Independence was signed 231 years and 1 day ago (did you really know that's what all those fireworks were for?)
There was a grave omission in the most recent Ed-word, meaning that the host grievously failed to include a key part of the piece. It was mistakenly deleted, but the article now appears intact, in its intended form. My sincere apologies to both Ed-word and our loyal readers.
Thanks for reading!

Hello All!
As we break out into July, I've got a new film pick for ya, and Ed-word updates us with a traumatic discovery from a health-food store. I've started receiving submissions for the next mic, so be sure to send your own work in this week. Traveling this summer? Let's see your best photos. Reading? Send us a book pick. And if anyone has an opinion of Sicko, that'd be great, too.
On another note, someone posted a very funny Buddhist joke on the chatter page, and I challenge you to top it. Everyone one needs a good joke for Independence Day. And lots of sparkling explosives.
Enjoy!

And Summer Begins . . .
Hey!
Thanks for visiting the Naked Mic. Summer has officially begun, and we're starting it off with a bang. This week you're in for some treats.
First of all, we've got a new mic! It's a great one too, with excellent poetry, fiction, artwork, music, and animation. I can now embed movies and music into the pages, which I have, just to enhance your Naked Mic experience. The mic's followed up by some new features, including a buttery new Ed-word, a Mad Duck, and some contemporary tape art.
So, enjoy! Pass it on! And thanks for coming!

Salutations, folks!
Thanks for visiting the Naked Mic. This week you're in for a few treats. First, David's crazy about a documentary film called Planet Earth. Then, on the cynical side of things, Ed-word compares "life" choices, and I've added a quirky comic called Mad Duck.
There's no new mic since we're still short on sign-ups. However, a new mic will definitely be posted next week, even if I have to pull out paints and fake something. Please spare us all and submit your work instead. It'll be posted in the company of some excellent poetry and fiction.
No one's found the Cohen poem yet. Just to be safe, I gave this to an anonymous tester, and he found the poem in 5 minutes. 5. So I know one of you can do it. Click on. There is a prize at stake, and besides, it's a great poem.
Summer starts this Thursday. Why not spend yours writing, painting, thinking, making? Then present it here!
To summer! And thanks again for stopping by.

One Month Down, Many More to Go . . .
Hello All,
Thank you for visiting. The Naked Mic went live nearly a month ago, and already we've had over 250 visits from 100 computers. Personally, that makes me very excited. There's a lot of interest and enthusiasm for this cyber open mic, and I'd like to develop that into more submissions, picks, and ideas for June.
This week we've got a new pick from David, who loves the book Home Land by Sam Lipsyte. I've also received several new submissions for the next mic. They're delightful, but more are needed. Don't be shy.
In other news, I'd like to announce the winners of the Naked Mic's first ever free prize giveaway! These were given to the first 3 people to submit works specifically for the open mic to reward their courage and genius. And the winners are:
1st place, and winner of a custom Naked Mic mix cd:
Lieke
2nd place, and winner of a cool collection of Naked Mic stickers:

Welcome to the Naked Mic. You're just in time for the second performance, and you can view it here.
The picks section is now unfolding, and a new book has just been added. I've posted some FAQs, but if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
I don't know what you're planning for Memorial Day weekend, but I'm going to enjoy some good barbeque. If you haven't made plans yet, you might be interested in the open chessboard. Why not start a game?
More Naked Mic is on the way. Until then, create, submit, spread the word, and enjoy yourself. Thanks for coming!

New Stuff!
The Naked Mic is on and growing strong! We've gotten 60 unique visitors already. I've just added a Naked Mic Picks section where you can recommend your favorite books, cds, and films. Additionally, Ed-word's offering a twisted weekly advice column with new commentary on swimming pools.
A mic with fresh performances is on the way. A feature production and band are already lined up, but we're short on poems and stories. Please don't be shy about submitting your own work for this (and you can always recruit friends). There's even a free prize giveaway currently in progress for the next few submissions! See the newsflash below for details. In the meantime, if you've got any feedback (good, bad, or controversial), please add it to the guestbook or send it my way to host@nakedmic.com.
Thanks for coming!

Thanks for visiting the Naked Mic!
We're currently a community of around 40 members, which is great for the first week! Please try to pass this site on so that we can continue to grow.
This week, we've added some new features: Ed-word has joined us with his quirky sense of humor, and I've written an advice column, "How Not to Build a Website." There's also a nifty search feature at the bottom of each page--just in case . . .
Keep in mind that I'm planning to update the mic next weekend, so do start pulling out your works of art. Forgotten Mother's Day? Solved. Declare that a poem, collage, or other piece, dedicated to Mum, will soon be published for all the world to see. Not every kid thinks of that.
Later tators,

Issue I/May 5, 2007
This issue marks the long-awaited debut of the Naked Mic!
And for all of you who thought, "Laurel's never really going to finish that website," you were right. The Naked Mic's still not finished. The whole concept is to change the site regularly to display new art and incorporate new features. It is, and will remain, a work in progress.
Whenever possible, I'd like to feature your writing/ films/ jokes/ ideas. Now you finally have an inviting place to display those lovely things you create. And it's even visited by delightful people who can help you out, if you'd kindly introduce yourself.
The bold can perform here, and the shy are welcome to start small.
Thanks for coming.
