Wild Daisies
                    by Anneloes

God didn’t want daisies to dance in sunlight
or He would have given them two legs each.

If I were a daisy,
I would complain.
I would want two legs.
I would want to dance,
I would catch the sun
with my twirls
with my heart.

Maybe daisies have complained,
but God didn’t give a damn.

Daisies don’t strike me as complainers,
so it must have been the oak
persuading them to shout to heaven
and make the old man at least consider.

He didn’t so much flinch.
He doesn’t give a damn.
He doesn’t care.
He may not even know.

He must know,
of all creatures,
He must know
what daisies
would dance like.

Still

God stuck to this original sketch,
refused to allow them
to express their joy
in dance.

They must have been
terrible dancers.
